Frequently Asked Questions
Is ceramic tint worth the extra cost in San Diego?
Yes, for most San Diego drivers. Ceramic film at California-legal 70% VLT rejects up to 85% of infrared heat on front windows where you can’t go darker. Cheap dyed film at 70% provides almost no heat rejection. The performance difference is significant in El Cajon’s summer heat.
How long does ceramic window tint last in San Diego?
Quality ceramic film is warranted for the lifetime of the vehicle against bubbling, peeling, and color shift. Unlike dyed film — which fades to purple within 2–4 years in San Diego’s intense UV climate — ceramic film maintains its performance and appearance indefinitely.
Does carbon tint block heat as well as ceramic?
Carbon film blocks 40–60% of infrared heat, compared to up to 85% for ceramic. For rear windows where you can go darker, carbon at 20% VLT provides solid heat reduction. For front windows at California’s required 70% VLT, ceramic significantly outperforms carbon because its heat rejection doesn’t depend on darkness.
Will window tint interfere with my GPS or FasTrak?
Ceramic and carbon film do not interfere with GPS, cell signals, or FasTrak transponders. Metallic/hybrid films can cause signal interference. We never install metallic film — all our installs use ceramic or carbon film that leaves your electronics unaffected.
Can I see clearly through ceramic tint at night?
Yes. Ceramic film at 70% VLT on front windows is nearly transparent — night driving visibility is unaffected. Even on rear windows at 20% VLT, ceramic film’s optical clarity means less visual distortion than metallic or poorly-installed dyed films. Quality installation is key to nighttime clarity.
What brand of ceramic tint does Cali Auto Glass & Tint use?
We use premium ceramic film from top-tier manufacturers including 3M, XPEL, and Llumar — the same brands used by dealerships and high-end detail shops. Every install includes a manufacturer’s lifetime warranty. We never use unbranded or generic film.
