Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y have a few design quirks that make them different from a typical tint job — here’s what to know before you book.
The Glass Roof
Both models use a single-piece glass roof rather than a traditional metal roof with a smaller sunroof, meaning it can be tinted for heat and UV reduction just like the side windows — a popular add-on since Tesla’s factory glass alone lets through significant heat and UV. Because it’s one large curved piece, it needs a installer comfortable working with a big, continuously curved surface without stretching the film unevenly.
Flush Door Handles
The Model 3 and Y’s flush-mount door handles sit close to the window trim, which means extra care trimming film around the handle recess so it doesn’t interfere with the handle’s pop-out mechanism. This is a small detail, but it’s one that shows the difference between an installer experienced with Tesla specifically versus general tint work.
Camera and Sensor Placement
Tesla’s cameras are integrated into the pillars and around the windshield area — film needs to be cut cleanly around these without obstructing the sensor’s field of view, since Autopilot and safety features rely on clear camera lines of sight.
What to Ask Before Booking
Ask specifically whether the shop has tinted Model 3s or Model Ys before — the glass roof and flush handles are enough of a departure from typical vehicles that general experience doesn’t always translate directly.
