A real Ford F-150 FX4 window tint job at Cali Auto Glass & Tint in El Cajon — from install to the finished truck.

This black Ford F-150 FX4 came into our El Cajon shop for a full window tint. It’s the best-selling vehicle in the country for a reason, and we tint more F-150s than almost anything else that comes through our bay — so we’ve got the process for this truck down to a science.

A Big Cab Means a Different Approach

A SuperCrew F-150 has some of the largest door glass we install on any vehicle, and the rear glass sits at a steep angle that curves noticeably at the corners. Film has to be pattern-cut and heat-shrunk correctly across that curve, or you end up with stress lines at the edges that never lay flat. We plot every panel from a digital pattern matched to the F-150’s exact cab configuration before the truck ever comes into the bay, so the film is sized correctly from the first pass.

Every install happens indoors, in a controlled bay. Dust that lands on film during application gets trapped permanently under it, and on a truck with this much glass surface area, that’s a lot of places for a cheap outdoor install to go wrong.

The Finished Truck

Clean edges on every window, no visible lines at the trim, and a shade that stays legal on the front doors. We used ceramic window tint on this FX4 — it rejects infrared heat directly instead of just darkening the glass, which matters on a truck with this much cab space to cool down after sitting in an El Cajon parking lot all afternoon.

California requires front side windows to let through at least 70% of light, no matter the size of the vehicle. We check every install against that limit before the truck leaves our lot, and it goes home with a compliance sticker documenting the film. Our California window tint law guide covers the exact percentages for every window if you want to check your own truck first.

Protecting the Front End

An F-150 that sees regular freeway miles picks up rock chips on the hood and front bumper fast — it’s one of the most common reasons owners come back to us a second time. If you’re tinting a truck you plan to keep looking sharp, it’s worth asking about paint protection film for the front end while it’s already in the bay for tint.
